Int Save (+5)
Hmm... looks like I need to tweak that code for the Nova Roll result slightly since it didn't add in the modifier.
Okay, I think that I have it fixed now so that it will add in the modifiers...
I think doing most of the dice rolling in this thread would be good. That way we can describe the success or failure in the IC thread, so it reads more like a book or something.
Also... Second Sight? It's a Talent, but I can't find where it is, in the main book, or the Libram Novuses.
I think doing most of the dice rolling in this thread would be good. That way we can describe the success or failure in the IC thread, so it reads more like a book or something.
Sounds good to me, or perhaps start a separate thread just for rolls? So that this one remains for conversation..
Also... Second Sight? It's a Talent, but I can't find where it is, in the main book, or the Libram Novuses.
Second Sight -- http://www.firehawkgames.biz/?page_id=1490 it is part of the core book....
Hmm somehow I missed it.
It is a small talent, doesn't take up much space..
page 30, right hand column, second item... (http:///smile.gif)
Sorry, I am unable to confirm at the moment. I am stuck in the middle of nowhere and no easy access to my books. I am almost sure that this talent is in Libram novus 2 along with the shaman class. I am also pretty sure that Tim (the one that is not you) can easily confirm. (http:///bigsmile.gif)IIRC, this talent enable the shaman to perceive the astral world when walking in the material world. I will have to check but i believe it allows the shaman to see spirits and perhaps perceive magical auras...
It looks like you can see all kinds of invisible stuff, like the dark entity standing near the gong that I put a picture of in the IC thread. That is a pretty handy talent.
just how big are these insects anyways? rough size...
Bee/wasp size. Nothing you could hit with a sword and kill. Think of them as a swarm of angry killer bees, and then you are getting somewhere.
Also, some people still need to make some Int Saves to see if they remember their name, AND THE NAME OF THEIR RETAINER. (http:///smile.gif)
Well, I failed the save for my name, here is for my retainer
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
:novus 1+5: This is for my retainer's name.
:novus 1+5: This is for my retainer's name.
it should be "1,+5" in the above to get it to work...
You just need to make 1 save for your character's and your retainer's name. (http:///smile.gif) If you make it you know both. It's like having a buy one get one coupon. hehe.
Anyone that wants to spend the time looking around the structure, and climbing on the structure can give me a Perception roll. The TN for this roll is 25.
Perception Roll (+4)
Ceillen opens wide his eyes and...
Perception roll...
Hehe, so far you guys see a lot of... old ruined stones. (http:///smile.gif) Anyone else?
Remember that you are also role-playing your retainer. (http:///wink.gif)
Aldor (that's Ceillen's retainer) scan the area...
Aha! The light bulb goes on...
Save for retainer to remember his name (Goryl)
Save for retainer to remember Ewyn's name
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
Perception for retainer
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
Ouch..... my dice suck....
Speaking about that... Being the guy behind the forum, you should be able to make another secret code for the PCs simulating 2d10+10+skill and let the sucking dice roller for GM use only ? But be cautious, he may be lurking around... :(http:///smile.gif)
I'm not making the Intelligence save. I noted in my first post that I was lying about remembering my name.
If you want me to roll for my retainer, let me know. I plan on calling him "Morte" regardless.
If you don't want to make the Int Save that is fine with me, hehe. (http:///smile.gif)
Apparently, both my character and his retainer are blind and unable to remember squat... hehhe (http:///bigsmile.gif)
Hmm... I'm hearing crickets. Where is everyone? (http:///wink.gif)
I am here..
I had called for some dice rolls... and didn't hear back from many people about them. Are people having a hard time rolling the dice?
I zas lucky smart enough to remember my name. Any chance to recollect anything about anyone in the group except my retainer ? Maybe a glimpse of where we come from or did we know each other before our awakening here ?
Nope, just a name and the name of your retainer. (http:///smile.gif)See you guys when I get back.
Anyone feel like trying to stop the gong from falling? (http:///wink.gif) Just asking.
not me, I am a little fellow, so I am trying to avoid being hit by it....
Hmm... it seems like perhaps we have lost some players. This happens fairly often in PBP games. I'll keep running it for the active players and when/if the other players return then can jump into the action.
Hmm...
Hmmm??? I know I am waiting to enter the tunnels... or more accurately, waiting to find out what we see as we enter..... (http:///bigsmile.gif)
It was dark. (http:///smile.gif)If you are climbing down with ropes, I will need a roll. It wasn't stated that you actually started climbing down.
Ceillen is willing to go in first. After all, dark is not so dark for someone with night vision. The light from the top of the pyramid will maybe be enough. He seizes the rope firmly and begins his (hopefully) uneventful descent into the heart of the ruins. With a astounding +2 in athletics, it will be a piece of cake.
Ouch, Tim I really hate your dice roller... :-[ I think I will have to spend a couple of fate points...
Perception Roll (for attempting to discern the depth)
Athletics roll (for climbing down)
It doesn't like me either....
Maybe Samwise will allow us to have a Save to try and not fall...
Oh my, haha.
See the IC thread (you two are falling).
You can make a Dex, Spd, or Str save (whichever you prefer) to attempt to grab the rope, slow yourselves on the walls, etc.
Ceillen attempt to save his scrawny hide using a speed save.
Wow ! Do not touch your dice roller Tim. It is perfect now !
You actually have a Boon Point from the Save. I'm not sure if that matters much in this instance though. Let's just say you do very well at slowing yourself and then stopping before the end of the fall.
I may be able to use this boon point to help my little friend.
That's a good point. (http:///smile.gif) Once he rolls the bones, we shall see if he needs that help or not. I would say you could use that Boon Point to grab his hand or ankle and keep him from plummeting to his demise.
Save vs Speed
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
I'll need another roll to climb down the rest of the rope...
Down we go !
Do you want to spend a Fate point...? (http:///smile.gif)
It seems I have no choice... I must have said something to offend the good spirits ! I could use one fate point to gain an additional die to roll, but more likely than not It will implode... So I think the best for me is to spend 2 fate points to add 2*5 to my original roll. That will be enough to reach the 15 TN.
Well, maybe wait till Tim rolls. Maybe he can save you this time.
Acrobatics roll (for climbing down again)
And just in case I need it -- another Save vs. Speed
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
Alright, you will need to spend those two fate points to keep your character from falling Fidoric.
The Halfling manages to climb down.
A small prize to stay alive. And we still have to meet an opponent !
Strange evil places are dangerous. hehe.
For some reason, your description reminds me of that cave where the Millenium Falcon hid in the one Star Wars movie, the cave that turned out to be the mouth of a giant space worm......
Query? Are you saying that Ewyn remembers his name now?
Also, Ewyn wants to study the triangles in each of the tunnels, to see if there some sort of pattern that he can discern. Do I need to roll anything? (will post in the IC thread once I know how to respond to Fidoric's question)
It is a strange setting... (http:///smile.gif)The triangles are written in a language he doesn't understand, with no real way to learn them. If you want to make an Int Save perhaps that would work to see if he can make anything out. Probably a TN of 20 though.
What the hell... heheh, might as well give it a shot...
Int Save
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
oh well.... (http:///bigsmile.gif)
It was worth a try.
I need a perception check from both of you. (http:///smile.gif)
Perception Roll
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
fingers crossed....
Ceillen is ready for a remake of Eyes wide shut...
That's a real Christmas miracle ! If I have earned a boon point, I use it to gather as much info as possible.
Perception Roll for my inspection of the body
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
There are no obvious wounds. It looks like it went to sleep and never woke up.
You guys should roll initiative since you were ready for an attack.
You guys should roll initiative since you were ready for an attack.
A wise and old adventurer once told me that the secret to becoming a "wise and old" adventurer is to be paranoid of everything...... (http:///bigsmile.gif)
ouch
Ceillen rolls for initiative, hoping to do a bit better than Ewyn...
Just to be sure... aren't initiative rolls non-implosive/non-explosive? I seem to recall that... but I could be wrong.
Just to be sure... aren't initiative rolls non-implosive/non-explosive? I seem to recall that... but I could be wrong.
IIRC, we had it that way at one time, but then changed it to allow for explosive/implosive results (which allows for extremely lucky characters to overcome the -20 that is given by surprise). Surprise is the only instance where the rules say that a negative IP means you cannot act this round (and IIRC, it says that if surprise makes you go below zero, you lose actions for the initial round), otherwise, I would say that a person with a naturally occurring negative IP simply goes in order like anybody else..
What I can do, however, is "Reroll Initiative" (spend 4 AP preparing, no more than half my AB used to Fight Defensively, and reroll initiative for next round, and then keeping that initiative for the remainder of the combat). And I think it might be a good idea if I do this... (http:///bigsmile.gif)
And to be clear about Ewyn's actions....
He has his Baton out, and he is using half of his AB in Fighting Defensively (20 DEF + 4 Fighting Defensively == 24 DEF total), and is spending his AP on Rerolling Initiative (4 AP, with 1 AP spent slowly moving back towards where we entered, and away from the smoke coming up out of the floor).
Is that okay? Or do I need to wait until next round to do this?
That sounds fine to me. (http:///smile.gif)
Fidoric is first, then the smoky tendrils, and then FHG_Tim goes last.
Okay, so we need to announce what we are doing.
Tim has announced this already.
The tendrils are going to attempt to attack both of your legs.
Fidoric what do you want to do, and remember you get to go first.
First, having no clue about the tendrils nature, Ceillen use 1 AP to go away in the same direction as Ewyn and 4 APs to fire an astral bolt at it (the creature of course).
If the astral bolt seems harmless to the tendrils, Ceillen will retreat while using his staff defensively. Current Ceillen DEF is 17, fighting defensively will make it 19.
Why does it have to implode every other roll... :'(
Basic CTN is 18, so this roll 'earns' me a snag point... Spell seems to be cast normally but has no effect...
If Ceillen is aware of his fumble, he will try another bolt next round. If he is not, he will consider the creature to be impervious to his attack and will switch to defensive fighting.
BTW, if one astral bolt strikes ever hits a target, it causes 4+wisdom=6 base damage and double (total) damage to any creature or being that is not from the Mortal Planes; including Celestial, Infernal, and Spirit entities. It does no damage to constructs, undead, or other non-living objects or things.
Maybe we should do a "Practice" roll before making each "real roll", like so:
Practice Roll
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
Real Roll
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
And...... figures.... my practice roll exploded.. hehehe
Two attacks on you guys. The first one is towards Ewyn and the second is towards Ceillen.
:novus 2+5:
:novus 1+5:
:novus 1+5:
Huh, I can't seen to get the dice roller to work.
I'm just going to do this old school (with real dice).
9 & 3 +5 = 17
8 & 3 +5 = 16
Next round. What will you guys do this time?
New bolt for Ceillen.4 APs for the bolt, 1 to back away. For the dice roller you have to put a comma between the number of rolls and the adjustment like this :ovus 2,+5:
New astral bolt:
Oops! I guess I have botched my edit attempt. I forgot to put the + before the adjustment and it wasn't taken into account. Anyway, this makes it 2+2+7=11. That's a new failure. I will try this again next round...
remember, to use the dice roller, you use a colon ":" then"novus" then a space, then the number of rolls, then a comma (this is what you forgot tim),then a "+" or "-" sign and the modifier, and then a closing colon.
Anyways, for the next round, Ewyn is still Fighting Defensively fully (he has an AB of 8, so his DEF will be 24 ( every 2 from AB gives +1 to DEF -- I made an error in last round and his DEF should have only been 22, not 24). However, he does not retreat any further.
Warm up roll (does not count for anything)
Resetting Initiative Roll
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
And one of the things about the dice roller is that you cannot edit posts in which they are made without having it appear like it does (since posters cannot post HTML code.
And Tim, remember, to put a comma between the first number and the "+" sign. That is why it didn't work. (http:///bigsmile.gif)
Well done Tim with your warming roll !
Fidoric if you want to adjust where you put some of your skill ranks after this first encounter, feel free to. When we playtested it, we realized that some players had chosen spells with very high CTNs that almost never went off except when the dice exploded. Just let me know and modify your character sheet post.
So Fidoric failed.
Tim, are you making an attack while being defensive? It doesn't seem that way since you didn't make attack roll. Let me know before I post the next round.
No, not making an attack THIS round, still operating defensively. Come next round, then I will start shifting points back to AB.
Thanks for your offer Samwise7. I don't think I need to swap ranks. I have paid some attention to my spells CTN. that's why I do not have Summon Totem. For example, my astral bolt has a basic CTN of 18, moderately easy with my +7 spellcasting skill. I will keep my faith in the Good Spirits !
I think I was thinking of a D20 version of fighting defensively. hehe.
They miss.
Alright, next round.
What are you guys doing?
Ceillen fires a new astral bolt at the thing and uses his remaining AP for a quick glance around, just to be on the safe side if anything happens around.
That's another failure. Ceillen will switch to basic quarterstaff bashing next round. No need to expand to much SP without any return.
Since Ceillen seems to have problems casting spells, Ewyn decides that he will take a crack at it.
Ewyn's DEF will be 20 this round as he casts Empty Fist (CTN 16, SP1; does 4 points of Base Damage)
Warm up roll (affects nothing)
Spellcasting Roll (+5)
dang! My spell fizzled as well, but at least I didn't earn a Snag point.. heheh
I think I'll do it your way Tim. The warm up roll seems mandatory !
Gamers are a superstitious lot. (http:///smile.gif)
I just realized that it doesn't look like my rolls are adding the modifiers... hmm.
Tim you need to make an Intelligence Save.
Testing.
Cool, now I have it figured out. (http:///smile.gif)
Arrgh!! Hey, is the tendril around the arm holding the baton or around Ewyn's free hand? This will determine which attack Ewyn uses next round. His DEF for the round will be 20 (no FIghting Defensively)
Warmup roll
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
If tendril is around arm holding baton -- cast Empty Hand again, at the tendril holding me
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
If tendril is around free arm, then strike at tendril (just past where it wraps around arm -- i.e. so a miss will not strike myself) using Baton (Hand Strike/Weapon Kata, AB 8, Base Damage (http:///bigeyes.gif)
The tendril wrapped around the arm with the baton, so you cast Empty Hand. Is that from the core rules or one of the Libram Novus PDFs?
Libram Novus #4 -- basically is similar to the Astral Bolt (4 points of Base Damage (no stat mod to Base Damage) + 1 point for each point over foe's DEF), but it can also be cast in a Cone form (which I did not do - hehe). Since the CTN is only 16, that means that Ewyn would have earned a Casting Boon Point as well, which he would use to "Double Numerical Effect" (which would mean 8 points Base Damage, instead of 4 -- Scaled Damage would remain as per normal).
Tim you need to make an Intelligence Save.
Which Tim needed the Intelligence Save? Me or you? (I apparently missed several of your posts somehow).
If it is me who needs to make it, then here it is...
Practice Roll (doesn't count)
Int Save (+5) :novus 1 ,+5:
Int Save (+5)
Implosion on a Save, not so good normally, hehe.
Tim do you want to use any Fate Points to modify your Save? Let me know either way and then I'll post the results.
Yeah, let me use 2 Fate Points, to give it a +10 and bring the result up to 18.
Okay, 18 is high enough to be successful.
Whew!
Alright, adding in the modifier that the dice roller didn't include it looks like you will take 3 scaled damage, 5 base damage, and then half of the cold / evil damage from the tendril that you saved for which is 10 damage for a total Hit Point loss of 18 damage. The Tendril is currently still gripping your arm.
So Ewyn is at 26/44 Hit Points.
A few things I must have missed when I read over the OOC thread before.
1) I don't believe you spend any Spell Points when your spell fizzles.
2) I think Ceillen wants to bash one of the tenticle things, but he still needs to roll. Also do you want to attack the creature that is attacking you, or do you want to attack the creature that is attacking Ewyn?
3) Ewyn's Results:
If tendril is around arm holding baton -- cast Empty Hand again, at the tendril holding me, roll was 28, the creature's defense is 20.
So you will deal 12 damage to the creature, plus 4 more damage for the Double Numerical Effect for a total of 16 damage to it.
I will wait for Ceillen's roll and then post this round's results.
1) I don't believe you spend any Spell Points when your spell fizzles.
Actually, in going back and looking at the rules, it doesn't actually specify either way. I think that I will post a thread to discuss this more fully and then decide upon what sort of clarification/FAQ/Errata might be needed...
Well for this game (and my opinion on it) I don't think fizzled spells should use up any Spell Points.
Well for this game (and my opinion on it) I don't think fizzled spells should use up any Spell Points.
You are the GM. (http:///bigsmile.gif)As you can see in my post on this, I tend to favor "failure = no SP cost, unless you earn Snag Points"
Oops, somehow I have missed the second creature point. I thought it was the same mass of tentacles attacking the both of us.
Here is my roll for a final attempt at nuclear blast astral bolt.
BTW, I think spellcasting should always cost something (1 SP). But Ceillen is a very independent fellow and does not seem to agree with me. (http:///bigwink.gif)
Ouch ! The adjustment is missing but even with a +7 it is a meager total of +2... More than enough to earn me another snag... So if my count is right, this is my second snag and I have spend a total of 2 SP out of my total pool. Please, anyone of you, kick my ass next time I make anything but a good old fighter !
I hear you are looking for more players. What do you need to know about me to decide if I would fit in your group and what do I need to know about your Group to decide if it would work for me?
Yes we are looking for some new players. The idea of the game is that a bunch of characters show up in a strange place via a portal and it is definitely a different place than where they came from (a different setting). Some of their memories like their names and things dealing with your past and your class abilities are slowly starting to re-emerge.
Your characters don't know this yet, but the setting will turn up the weird factor somewhat and it will also be a "hexcrawl" so one hex at a time will be revealed at a time on the map thread.
This is an opportunity to try out the system if you haven't yet.
Sounds fascinating, how do I create a character, or do you create it and I figure out more about the character as my memory returns?
I've been using Int Saves to have your character remember things about his or her past. So you remember how to use your class abilities and such but you don't remember who taught you them, or where you learned them for instance. You can make an Int Save to remember your name right off of the bat though.
One more thing, everyone has a loyal retainer / servant / torch bearer, etc. If you mistreat this guy too much he may rebel, but I've told everyone that they can role-play them out themselves. The two players that have been posting have just left their retainers out with their strange mounts, but I suggest keep the retainer with you. (http:///smile.gif)
Thinking I may create a Druid or Ranger type, but not positive yet. Should have a character done by the weekend, possibly sooner
Great! Cannot wait to meet him! (http:///bigsmile.gif)
That sounds good.
Having never created a Novus Character before it is taking me longer than anticipated, too many choices too few points. (http:///smile.gif)
Hi Sunwolf, Let me know if you need any help. I'll be more than happy to give a hand.
Back to dice rolling again. If I end up in a magic blast, you can have my boots Ewyn...
Ceillen attempts to cast call spirit to summon a minor spirit of air who may have some pieces of information about our climber.
Oups, I have made the same mistake again... The spell CTN is 17. With a roll of 22, that's a success... If there are any spirits around.
Was Ewyn able to see/hear the summoned spirit? or do I need to go by what the other guy tells me? Just trying to clarify (partly because Ewyn's reaction will be based on what he saw heard).
Hmm, I think Ewyn probably only felt wind and the drop in temperature since he doesn't have the same talent.
Ewyn has started climbing
practice roll
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
Climbing (Athletics) Roll
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
Well aware of our outstanding performance with ropes, Ceillen waits for Ewyn to begin his own climb, but not directly under the rope. Ceillen roll to climb (if needed), that is if nobody is willing or able to pull him. Otherwise, he will tie the rope around his waist and let the trustworthy henchmen do the job.
If Ceillen is required to climb up, he will expand a fate point to avoid a fall. That will boost his roll from 14 to 19.
Ceillen waits patiently for the rope to return. He is very cautious though and constantly scan the surroundings, hoping the dark spirit can wait a bit longer before manifesting itself again.
They will pull you out, so no need to spend the point.
I just wanted to point out that you don't "have to" go back into the lower levels of the temple if you don't want to. The whole idea of this type of campaign (a hexcrawl) is to have the players explore. I have made up the map already so you can go into any direction you want, or back into the dungeon complex again. It really doesn't matter. You tell me what your small group does, and I'll tell you what happens. It is that simple. There are no railroad tracks here, feel free to be proactive and go in any direction you wish. Have fun with it, that is my main concern.
Sunwolf if you need help with your character let me know.
BTW, how many people remain on the top of the pyramid ? Ewyn and Ceillen for sure, their two retainers ? What about the Orc ? Is it possible to use it instead of my retainer ? Sunwolf, your help will be most welcome, especially if you can climb ropes.
The top of the pyramid is more like the Mayan temples with more of a flat surface so Ewyn, Ceillen, the two retainers and several others could fit on top of it.
I am completely lost on "the Orc" statement. Do you want your retainer to be an Orc?
It would also be easiest if you guys decided to go: North, Northeast, Northwest, South, Southeast, or Southwest. (http:///smile.gif)
Got temporarily derailed for awhile on character creation, pretty much done except for equipment. Once I have that done or at least some of it done I will post.
That sounds good. I think your entrance will be through a portal that opens up 15 feet in the air. You will be deposited in a very rough fashion (but no actual damage, but you can role-play being sore). hehe.
ouch.. and that will leave him without a mount either (like the ones that the rest of us have)
I am completely lost on "the Orc" statement. Do you want your retainer to be an Orc?
In fact I was speaking about a Orc PC I have created for a friend who was quickly gone. Anyway, disregard. I will keep my current retainer.
Oh, and by the way, due to a sudden meta game intuition, Ceillen begin to monitor the sky closely, paying special attention to falling new comrades and other UFOs... (http:///bigwink.gif)
Oh, good point about the mount. It will fall out with you, as well as a retainer like everyone else has. It will be a bit pile of things.
The main idea of retainers is just to have a 2nd character that can help you do a few things here and there. I was surprised when you left them behind... but they were able to help you out of the vertical shaft. Also, feel free to play your retainers, but I will step in when I feel it is appropriate.
Sunwolf, the riding mount you will have is a large flightless bird.
Character is posted. (http:///smile.gif)Missing a couple of pieces of information about some of his spells regarding range and duration but none are combat spells so I will worry about filling in later.
Welcome Sunwolf. A third member will add loads of fun to the party.
The character looks good.
I've been checking in but I'm waiting on you guys. (http:///smile.gif)
And I was the last one to post in the IC thread. So, basically, we are waiting on Sunwolf to respond to the question that my character asked his...
Put the blame on me huh. (http:///bigwink.gif)I thought my previous post has pre-emptively answered your last post
hehe... it may have, and I just didn't realize it. I sometimes have so much going on, that I miss a post or two and don't realize it until later (happens often to me, it seems...)
Just getting back to Forums after a couple of days, hopefully you weren't waiting for me again
Not this time... (http:///bigsmile.gif)
My son makes posting difficult sometimes. He is a cranky 11 month old Mr. Grumpy Pants. hehe.
My son turns out had pneumonia... They caught it early though, so that is good.
very good that they got it early!
And Ewyn wasn't tramping down the grass, he was either pulling it up, or cutting it off near the ground with his dagger (the idea being to use the grass as fuel for the fire).... Hence the extended amount of time spent making a clearing. (http:///bigsmile.gif)
Samwise, I hope your little one is getting better quickly. Tim, so long as you are cutting the grass and not smoking it... (as a Shaman, I have a copyright on recreative herbs).
Ceillen attempts to cast Summon Spirit (CTN=16).
Cutting the grass (not smoking or tramping it down) gotcha. hehe.
My son Wes does seem to be turning a corner and getting more energy, so that is good.
Spell goes off without a hitch.
yes, cutting the grass (or pulling it from the ground when possible, if it is long enough to get a good hold of.
The idea is
1) To make sure there is a wide enough area to build a fire without fear of it spreading across ground vegetation 2) To pull/cut enough grass to start a small fire (and hopefully keep it burning for a while) 3) To clear a large enough area so that it is relatively easy to spot predators from getting too close before we spot them
Sounds good. (http:///smile.gif)
It wil take Thorite 5 minutes to Cast Shelter CTN=20 and take 3SP base 2+1 impedance since he took his helm off. Casting Roll
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
Not quite good enough (http:///frown.gif) and not worth spending a fate point on.
If it proves necessary, Ceillen use the camp fire to cast Call Spirit (CTN 17) and ask a Fire spirit to keep our fire burning through the night.
I've never had so many spirits in a game before, it is cool.
The make-shift shelter you have set up should be enough for the night. The Fire Spirit may be necessary though since there isn't very many flammable substances in the area, just grass.

rolling for silver
What do you guys say to starting the in game posts with character names in bold- that way we can distinguish who is doing what in the story?
Yeah it is good to put what your character's name in each post. Sometimes some of our current players forget that. (http:///smile.gif)I will go ahead and "drop" your character into the IC thread.
Ewyn will be casting Empty Fist at the first creature to get within 50' of the group. Empty Fist does a Base Damage of 4 points, and has a CTN of 16.
Empty Fist

Ceillen's roll in case an astral bolt is needed : CTN 18, DR 6
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
Not sure what kind of actions I can do at this point. I'd look at Action points in a round and stuff, but I'm not sure we're down to measuring time in that way yet.
Yeah, basically you have 3 rounds to do... anything really. "Combat" hasn't started yet though. If you think of a LARGE heard of stampeding cattle that shoot up with hormones and growth enhancers then you have a good idea what you are currently facing.
and from your description, it sounds like it might be too wide to get out of the way (possibly), and if it is possible, we would likely end up losing all our supplies..
Fun! (http:///smile.gif)
I'm curious to see what you guys come up with.
I had you guys all auto-hit your targets. The problem is that there are MANY targets.
Everyone needs to make 3 Saves vs. Dexterity. Everyone you fail you get hit by one of the creatures.
Ceillen tries to get out of their path:

hope I got this right

Saves vs Dex
(http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/Themes/MGames/images/dice.gif)
Let's see if I remember how to roll dice. hehe. These are for Thorite (Sunwolf's character) just to keep things moving.
In hindsight I should have probably had you guys roll a Speed Save (I've been on an OSR / Old School kick lately). I'll checked though and most of you only got a +1 bonus if I used Quickness so I'll just add that in. I don't think it affected anything though.
FHG_Tim / Ewyn manages to avoid all of the animals in several deft maneuvers that impress the rest of you with his quickness.
Fidoric / Ceillen is hit by 2 of the stampeding creatures and their tusks rip into him and then he is ran over by their hooves.
First Creature's Damage: 12 Second Creature's Damage: 22
Superdad / Faimden ducks most of the creatures but he gets gored on one of them. First Creature's Damage: 12
Sunwolf / Thorite gets trampled under one of the creatures and a hoof cracks him in the skull. First Creature's Damage: 21
(Remember to reduce this damage for each source if you have armor)
I forgot about the Retainers too. hehe.

Fidoric's Retainer gets gored and trampled underneath two of the creatures. First: 8 damage Second: 14 damage
FHG_Tim's Retainer also manages to miraculously avoid getting trampled under hoof.
Sunwolf's Retainer gets gored in the chest and his leg gets trampled on. First: 18 damage Second: 10 damage
Superdad's Retainer gets slammed into by one of the creatures and gored by the second. First: 23 damage Second: 14 damage
(Remember to reduce the damage from each source if your Retainer is wearing armor).
I think that is everyone that is now currently playing...
Apparently, Ewyn has taught his retainer the art of "How not to get hit".... (http:///bigsmile.gif)
That reminds me of the Monty Python skit about not being seen. (http:///smile.gif)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltmMJntSfQI
I go on vacation for a few days and we get gored and trampled. Yikes! I will have to check my stats and armor a little later today but that is a heavy hit. On the other hand since his head was jogged maybe all of his memories will come back.

More like his head was jogged upon... (http:///bigsmile.gif)
Hmm... actually, I think Ewyn will let Creg do the first aid while he tries to round up the mounts.....
Here are half a dozen rolls, to used to help various people...
First Aid

I am assuming Thorite currentlly has no armor on as it would have needed to be taken off to treat his injury. So having used 3 spell points earlier he will use two more to try and cast Shelter once again and will have 5 left. We will see if I can remember the rolling method correctly :novus+7:
Guess I remembered wrong. Let's try casting again with the right dice (and spell) formula this time. CTN is 20 I don't believe their are any penalties for hitpoint damage but if there are (or for anything else) adjust after the roll. If I somehow earn a casting boon it will be used to increase the 5' radius of the shelter. Assuming of course I succed.
Well if there are no penalties on the roll I succeed and actually cast the Shelter spell.
Outside of combat if you want to take your armor off to cast that is fine. Just make sure you put that in your IC post in case something unexpected comes up. Yep, looks like Shelter works.
I feel like this cold water will act as a soothing balm for my burning bruises. I suggest that you warriors use the shelter to recover your strength as soon as possible in case it would be needed.
The Shaman is a gentleman. (http:///smile.gif)
a gentle(sha)man (http:///bigsmile.gif)
I'm still checking on the game guys, I'm just waiting on some character to character role-playing, etc.
Should I just fast-forward to the next day?
that might be a good idea. (http:///bigsmile.gif)
Ceillen switches to spirit sight to check for any spirit that may pay a visit.
Ewyn stands ready in case they attack. He readies the spell, Empty Fist, so that he can quickly cast it if need be..
Thorite being shorter of stature will step forward unarmed and kneel down with his palms forward and empty in a sign of peace.
I am going on vacation for a little over a week. Have fun talking about the strange characters (if people are still playing this game, hehe). Cya when I get back.
I'm back from vacation. I hope to get caught up on all of my PBP games tomorrow sometime.
And I just started my new job yesterday (will be doing Tech Support from Home for AppleCare -- I work through Kelly Services in their AppleFlex program). The entire first month is going to be devoted to training!
So, I may be a bit slow to respond now and then... (http:///bigsmile.gif)
That's good Tim, I hope it works out for you. I think my wife wants to start staying home more with my son... so I may have to get a second job or attempt to just get a better one where I can work more hours. If that changes I'll let you guys know.
yup, am in training right now...
this is tier one support, so nothing too technical (not like my last stint doing tech support (which was tier 2), but I am getting to learn lots of great stuff, and everybody I am working with is fantastic!
That is good to hear. (http:///smile.gif)
The best part is that I get to do it here at home. Which means, since I have the iMac they sent me sitting next to my PC, then when things are slow and I am waiting for calls to come in, I can simply turn a little to the left, and work on other things.
Working on other things is a nice perk. (http:///smile.gif)
The game seems to have lost a good deal of its players over the time that we have ran it. Are people still interested in continuing the game?
I am eager to go on but it's true that we have difficulties finding our rhythm.
It seems to go well for a time, and then really slow down. It is the Summer though, so maybe that is part of it.
I am all still for playing it, but next couple of weeks (more specifically, this coming week) are not going to be good for me (see http://www.firehawkgames.biz/forum/index.php?topic=1009.0 for the reasons why).
I have been debating about this. With the high number of people that have signed up and then dropped out I think I'm just going to call this game. Thanks for playing everyone. It is just hard to run a consistent game when you aren't sure who the player characters are going to be.
I'll post a wrap up post in the IC thread to finish the game.
