I thought that was going to be fixed. Unless Tim decided NOT to change it, it is VS Def. All Bolt spells are.

Novus RPG / Renaming Universal Spells?

So far I like "Prime" and "Prosaic", these sound the best to me.

Novus RPG / jumping question
« on: April 21, 2011, 05:53:50 AM »
Tim, with all due respect I am not sure that an 8' reach is correct for a human 6' tall. I haven't measured it myself but my son who is 6'4" can reach to about just a little over our ceiling height and I have low ceilings; about 7.5'

And for the most part; we remained civil this time, Sam!  :-X

Novus RPG / Insanity or Corruption?
« on: April 21, 2011, 05:46:27 AM »
There should be; in a fantasy based game.

Not in a horror based fantasy game, maybe. The horror factor becomes not so horrible when the effects of the horror are lessened too easily.

Novus RPG / Insanity or Corruption?
« on: April 19, 2011, 05:29:34 AM »
Sanity (or lack thereof) always went rather quickly in the games I have GM'd for Call of Cthulu. The same thing happens for Dark Heresy's Corruption points. They add up all too easily sometimes.

In Call of Cthulu it is simply thus: the more you know of the Mythos, the less Sanity you have. For each Mythos Point you gained, you had one point less of Maximum Sanity. I am sure you used that rule. If you didn't that may have been your problem.

Novus RPG / Insanity or Corruption?

I like the Sanity relation to Faith, but maybe even include that if you decide to have an evil campaign you have to have a minimum number of Insanity points to have particular classes. ie you have to start the game with a significant amount of Insanity.

Perhaps allow your characters that are "Good" aligned to be able to burn XP to lower their Insanity to acceptable levels for your particular Faith.

Just some ideas

Novus RPG / Action Declaration/Resolution Question
« on: April 10, 2011, 04:21:14 AM »
Other systems handle these issues differently. For example, my group is currently playing Mongoose Traveller (as well as testing your game) and it handles fighting defensively thus:

If you are attacked you may Dodge; this subtracts 1 from your opponent's chance to hit but also subtracts 1 from all your Skill checks the following round. You may Dodge as many time as you wish in one round. Dodge is a Reaction and a character can have as many Reactions as he likes.

Now, I might put a limit on that, because it sounds a little much to be able to Dodge an unlimited amount of times.

In Warhammer Fantasy 2E (the only edition I have played, I won't play 3E) you can either Dodge an attack or Parry if you have a shield. You can only Dodge or Parry once in a round. It has been some time since I played and my books are at my shop, but I believe if you have both those Talents you can do both once in a round.

I'd like to see something discussed by Tim regarding a similar method as Traveller.

Novus RPG / Action Declaration/Resolution Question
« on: April 04, 2011, 07:56:15 AM »
When I play tested it with my group we declared and resolved at once from highest to lowest. That system is similar to Dark Heresy, Megatraveller, and other well thought out games of that type. It seemed to work.

Novus RPG / Initiative Question
« on: April 04, 2011, 08:00:48 AM »
We roll for initiative once per combat, Then if new opponents enter combat they get to roll once for themselves. Everyone else keeps what they have, The new guys may or may not have a conditional modifier that adds or subtracts from their roll.

Novus RPG / Excel Character Sheet
« on: April 26, 2011, 05:41:19 AM »
I expect to be spending the next week in French Antillas, in holidays with my beloved family at last !

Man, that sucks. Any time you need a little help with that, let me know. I am always willing to make a sacrifice to go to some tropical isle.

Seriously, be safe and have fun, Fidoric!

Novus RPG / Some upcoming changes
« on: April 15, 2011, 05:08:32 AM »
When will 0.4 be out? Hopefully soon... I'd like to see the changes before I started running a full game. I believe you said you are putting out a world system at some time, but I was planning on starting a campaign in the Pathfinder series. I believe 3.5 would convert over to Novus fairly easily.

Novus RPG / Adding New Races - Any Ideas?
« on: April 21, 2011, 05:48:28 AM »

No, but adding a feline race wouldn't be difficult..

All it would require would be a little catnip.

Sorry, couldn't resist...
