Novus RPG / Table Placement Poll
« on: March 11, 2011, 10:06:01 PM »
I think placing all the tables important tables at the end of the book will help. I think AD&D 2nd edition did this and it was great.
Also I would label tables like "5.3 Combat Boons" ('Chapter #','table #'  'name').  This makes cross referencing easier because you don't have to mention page numbers (eg. "Players choose a combat boon from Table 5.3 Combat Boon and apply them right away.") A player can easily flip to the end of the book with all the tables in order.

I am not sure what typesetting/word processing software you use, but LaTeX, which I use exclusively, does this automatically.

This will also make it easier to maintain the different versions (free, deluxe and print). Because the page numbers could be different in all of them. Also errata for print version would be easier to integrate since there is no page number.

General Discussion / Welcome! And come introduce yourself!
« on: February 27, 2011, 04:35:10 PM »
Hello,
I have been playing table top RPG's since 1994 started out with AD&D 2nd, then tried MERP, WoD, Fuzion, Hackmaster, and a variety of other P&P RPG's. I did seven years in the U.S. Navy and I am now finishing up an undergraduate degree in Physics at the University of South Florida. I recently had my first child, a healthy boy, and my wife and I live comfortably in Tampa, Florida. I am currently dreaming of rolling the dice again after a long sabbatical.

Novus RPG / Typo and Error Collection Thread

Page 37 Deluxe version
"It is complex because these Codified spells were created a more flexible set of underlying rules that allows for both the creation, learning and casting of Codified spells, which are easier to cast, and also the use of what we call Spell Bases in Improv casting, that is creating and casting spells on the fly, on the spur of the moment. These more advanced rules will be covered in a later product."

Bold section is awkwardly worded. Maybe "It is complex because these Codified spells were created by a more flexible set of underlying rules that allows for both the creation,"

Also "These more advanced rules will be covered in a later product." I haven't read it yet but isn't out already?

"There are three lists of Boons, one for general tasks, one for combat, and one for spell casting, and one basic list of Snags that will have options that apply to various types of actions."

The table on page 53 is "Skill Boons" not "General Tasks Boons".
Also I suggest rewording the sentence so is is not in the form "w, x, and y, and z"

Novus RPG / Glossary
« on: March 01, 2011, 02:32:48 AM »
I think this is a great idea. I am reading through the rules right now and have come across terms like "favored skill" before they were explained latter on. So it kind of interrupts the flow of reading if you come across a term you don't know about yet, and you have to skip farther into the book to understand what it means. A glossary in the beginning could explain the terms so the reader is not forced to skip ahead to figure out the meaning. It is also good for people who do not read the book cover to cover.

I just stumbled upon this and the first episode was very good.

JourneyQuest is a fantasy comedy web series from the creators of "The Gamers" and "The Gamers: Dorkness Rising".

I have liked the other Dead Gentlemen Productions films so I thought I would share this.
You should check it out.
