Any news on progress for Novus 2?  Are you looking at a Kickstarter at all?

Good to hear you are still about.  Sometimes life takes turns we don't expect and things need to be put on hold.  Take care mate.

The bandit calls for you to surrender and keeps his crossbow levelled at you waiting to see your response.  [Holding his action at a cost of 1AP]
(of course if you surrendered it would of course make the combat test rather boring    )

Novus RPG / LN11 - Combat Style for 2-handed weapons
« on: January 19, 2016, 10:06:29 PM »
I have had a shot at what it might be.  Happy for any suggestions or thoughts...

Double Handed Weapon Style
This is a style of fighting that may use any of the weapons found in the 2Handed weapon groups of Great Axes, Great Blades and Pole Arms - not staves. Right now that includes only Staves and Short Spears. The style here involves sing the weapon in two hands with no shield but attacking with only 1 end of the weapon.

The character must have a Weapon Proficiency in the weapon to be used with this style.

Tier 1 - The character gets +1 DEF when using this style due to an ability to utilise the weapon defensively in lieu of a shield.
Tier 2 - The character may now make basic attack move for the same AP cost as a Medium weapon (ie 4 AP)
Tier 3 - The character may make a second attack on another target that is within reach and located in the frontal attack zones. This may only be used as part of an all out attack move and the second attack has a -2 penalty applied to the AB (the +2 AB bonus described in the rules does not apply to the second attack).
Tier 4 - The character may perform a block on his opponent and if successful the opponent must save vs Str or drop their weapon (TN is 15 + 1 for every tier in this style).
Tier 5 - The character no longer receives the negative modifier for his secondary attacks.

Just been looking through it and I have to agree - having said that I am not sure that I have a problem with that.

Novus RPG / First timers impressions and questions
« on: March 13, 2015, 02:11:40 PM »

OK time for yet another question....

Looking at the warrior mage class.

They learn spells from the warior mage group at the Mj cost.  They learn from Wizardry at N cost.  What do they learn from the universal spell list at?

Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but I can't seem to find the answer.

The reason you cannot find the answer is likely cause I forgot to actually mention it anyplace.

Universal Spells -- Use the best cost tier (i.e. Mj).

Don't forget that they have to learn a second Spellcasting skill that is NOT automatically Favored to learn Spells from the School of Magic that their Class List of spells comes from.

But they don't need a second spellcasting for universal do they?  I thought all spellcasters could cast from them as well as their main spellcasting group?

OK another question from me.  This time about the archery combat style.

Ok so I assume that the character would have skills in Combat Skill: Bows.  Lets say at level 1 they have 6 ranks - 2 from background 4 from purchasing the skills.  Now I have decided they should buy the archery combat style.  So on the character sheet I assume this get recorded as Combat Skill: Archery.  So why would I want to put more than 1 rank into this?  I am not sure what additional benefit I get for additional ranks.  Advice welcome!

OK time for a stupid newbie question from the new guy.  When creating a character is created and you are choosing combat skills - does you give a skill against a weapon (eg mace) or a group of weapons (eg clubs)?

Also a question regarding paladins (from LN#9).  They don't appear to get any armour training first up.  Is that correct?

Thanks.  I am hopeful that Novus will find that spot I am looking for - between old school AD&D (where I spent many, many years) and HARP.

I am having a bit of a shot at it.  Using backgrounds for all human races except for the Dunadan/Numenorians.  Also going to have to think over the use of magic.
