VsD Campaign: Against the Court of Urdor (Ukrasia)
« on: October 09, 2024, 08:43:07 PM »
I'm running two Against the Darkmaster campaigns these days. One is set in my homebrew world of "Ukrasia." The campaign itself draws quite heavily upon the old (1983!) ICE campaign module The Court of Ardor by Terry Amthor (but I've changed a lot in order to make it fit into Ukrasia; it never was a great fit for Middle-earth, IMO).

In case anyone is curious, here's the master page for the campaign (with links to pages describing various aspects of the setting, characters, and adventures):

How are you adapting the Court of Ardor? Are you only adapting specific aspects?

I'd have to dig out and reread it to remember, the only thing off the top of my head that I remember is the magic card decks used to communiate with others who are part of the deck.

The regions of Dûshera and Mûmakan were altered completely (the former is now a sparsely populated realm of halflings and dwarves, the latter an unruly land of orcish tribes). Other realms were modified as well (but less dramatically so). The timeline and other details  were wholly reworked to fit with Ukrasia. And I changed the name of the Court and the region named after it from “Ardor” to “Urdor.”

Also, the overarching aim of the deadly Court of Urdor differs significantly from that described in Amthor’s module. The "ritual" (involving 8 stones of "unlight") will remain the same. But, roughly, "my" Court aims to use the ritual to bring back their leader Queen Everekka (ruler of the "Night Elves," banished to another plane at the end of the Elvish Era), whereas the original Court sought to destroy the sun and moon. However, the structure and the organization of the Court itself will closely resemble the original version -- including the use of the card deck to communicate (an idea that Amthor acknowledged was taken from Roger Zelazny).

From the Amber series of books. I remember that now (it has been a few decades since I read them, and I also now remember how he acknowledged their source as well, now that you mentioned it hehehe)
