Minor / Major adepts
« on: February 17, 2011, 10:40:19 PM »
As I understand it, differences between minor and major adepts are rather small :
- spell acquisition costs 1 CP less for the major adept,
- both gain 2 SP each level,
- major adepts have two starting SP more than minor adepts (10+stat vs 8+stat).
That gives the major adept a small discount on CP each level and a mere 2 SP bonus over the minor adept.
Is it the way it is intended ?
What about giving the minor adepts 1 SP per level, creating a smooth progression between major (2SP/lvl), minor (1 SP/lvl) and non-adepts (1 SP/ 2 lvl) ?
Do I have misunderstood something (it wouldn't be the first timeĀ  Fidoric

That is something that is actually already under consideration (the spell points per level issue). One thing that was also being considered is adding a "Dabbler" level that receives 1 SP/lvl and moving Major Adepts up to 3 SP per level. -- As well as possibly increasing their starting SP.

A character will never normally have access to
more than 2 Schools of Magic...

Perhaps the Major Adept could be the only Adept who could take advantage of this? This would also give more incentive to the Minor Adept to spend the 12 CP to "upgrade" to Major Adept.

I am actually on the fence about the Minor Adept being allowed to "upgrade" to a Major Adept. I kind of like the idea of a Major Adept being a "pure" caster. Grrr! Novus has so many possibilities to it! (And that's a good thing!)

Actually, there is a type of Adept that I haven't introduced yet - one that will be for those who only have a minor spellcasting capability (i.e. Paladin, Ranger, Bard, etc..)

Minor is actually in there for those who really want 2 Schools of Magic - sort of a hybrid of those two schools... At least that was the original idea...

I likely have to rephrase the descriptions better... hehe

That's good news. Last week, I tried to create a "spell casting ranger" and it's rather CP taxing. If you take for example a archer, buy him the minor adept talent and one or two spells, you begin to be rather low on CP to buy talents and skills.
