Just a thought on creatures:

As a possibility for a future, larger monster manual what about statting the creatures beginning at 1st level and then providing guidelines to increase their level. I realize that some creatures (rarely, I would hope) will start out higher than 1st due to the creature itself, but having stats for a 1st level Orc are very handy to those of us who like low level beginning campaigns.

Thoughts on that?

Possibility of future, larger creature book? Definitely.

If there is a way to modify the creatures in the book, that would be a plus.  I mentioned how there were only two 1st level creatures before.

Actually, that should be relatively easy to add into the manuscript.

Once I make the corrections to the Monsters section, everything will be straightforward.

Adjusting Creature Levels: For each level up or down that you adjust the creature, add or subtract the following: 3 + Con Stat Bonus in hits and +/- 1 point to Combat Skills, perception, Stealth, and Tracking. +/- 1 to DEF for every 2 levels of adjustment.

Keeps is simple and easy to do.

So you wouldn't modify stats at all? I suppose leaving that sort of thing to the adventurous heroes?

I started converting some of the monsters from a 1st level 1st Ed AD&D module to Novus, using a lot of stats and skills from a 3.5 D&D MM. It mostly worked...But I am off for the next two weeks on reenacting events so I will be unable to continue running my group for a while.

The main complaint I had from my group was that it took a looong time to run combat, but of course we ran several things wrong on our first time.

Combat takes a while in any system, as far as I can tell, simply because it has the most rolls and such involved.

There is also the factor that they are not yet used to the system. As they get used to it, it will proceed faster.

As for the stats -- No, I did not change any of the stats. The only creature that were even given varied stats were dragons, and that is because we gave 5 different versions, each at a different size, so the Dragon's stats were based on its age and size, not upon its level.
