Scalable Healing?
« on: June 06, 2011, 01:53:41 AM »
I didn't see anything about this, so I'm not sure if my healing can be increased by surpassing the Target Number or not.  At low levels the amount of healing can be quite a bit, but I'm afraid at higher levels that my healing spells will become obsolete and pointless.  Can I get some clarification on this?  Thanks.

The healing effect can be scaled up through the use of Boon Points.

For example, the spell, Faith Healing (Divine School), heals "10+Wis Bonus" in hits with a Casting Target Number of 20. The spell casting Boons allow you to increase the numerical effect for 1 Boon point. Thus a casting roll of 30+ gives you one Boon Point, and would allow you to heal (10+Wis Bonus)x2, and so forth....

If you look on the Casting Boons table, the entry for "Increased Numerical Effect" actually uses increase the number of hits healed as an example.

Ah, ok, I see.  And as a player increases in level, as long as he increases that spellcasting skill, he could more easily achieve the higher numbers, thus giving him more Boon Points.  Ok, thanks, that eases my mind a bit.

Yup, the Casting Boons allow for scaling any spell (in a number of different ways) based on how well they do on the casting roll (after the fact scaling).

Since all spells from a single school use a single skill, this almost ensures that the caster will want to continue improving it.
