some questions for "newbie"
« on: July 21, 2013, 03:46:58 PM »
Hello again.

I had read Novus back in the beta days, then got sidetracked with "life".

But, I'm back and just bought the deluxe version.

Some quick questions:

1) any plans to update the PDF with the errata?

2) I skimmed through the book and didn't see height/weight or starting age charts.   Do these exist for Novus and I missed them or is the GM "on their own"?

3) any plans for more books?  (monsters guide, etc)

4) any guidance anywhere on how to whip-up quick NPC's (if your players zip when you expected them to zag)

5) at only 130 pages...Novus feels like a "starter" version (no offense to anyone!) ...any plans to expand it to a super-deluxe version (without it getting unwieldy of course)

I'll think of more as I continue to read..THANKS!

Hello again.

I had read Novus back in the beta days, then got sidetracked with "life".

But, I'm back and just bought the deluxe version.

Welcome back!

Some quick questions:

Sure thing, no problem!

1) any plans to update the PDF with the errata?

Eventually yes. The thing is, I have partnered with Chronicle City, and they have done a print run of Novus. So, until that print run is almost out or stock, I don't want to update the PDF and make it where it does not match the print version.

In the meantime, you can find all of the errata here on this page --> http://www.firehawkgames.biz/?page_id=205

So far there are only 12 items in the list of errata.

2) I skimmed through the book and didn't see height/weight or starting age charts.   Do these exist for Novus and I missed them or is the GM "on their own"?

Each race decription gives the average height and weight for the specific race, though it does not put them in a table (if you like, I could whip some up and put them into the next issue of Libram Novus). Starting Age is usually going to be based upon a combination of racial and cultural factors, though 18% of the average lifespan is a good generalized number to use. Though some cultures may consider adulthood to happen earlier or later than that.

3) any plans for more books?  (monsters guide, etc)

Yes, definitely have plans for more books. But recent events (buying a house last fall, changing jobs about a month ago, among other things), tend to have slowed things down a bit.

4) any guidance anywhere on how to whip-up quick NPC's (if your players zip when you expected them to zag)

Not really, but here are some 1st level NPCs I have whipped up. The plan is to eventually have one for each Class, and then to post versions of it at different levels to create a library of NPCs/Characters that a GM or player can select from.

But also remember that one of the reasons for the Boons is that they are player decided, which means that as GM, you get to decide the results of Boon points for the attacks against the characters. Which means that you, as GM, can set the lethality of the game by choose other Boons, and that you get to do this without the need for fudging dice rolls. Your monster earns 5 Boon Points in one attack? Instead of going for an instant death result, perhaps he uses that to inspire his fellows, or to make extra attack rolls, or if he is out numbered, he uses those Boon Points to put the characters at a disadvantage so that he can escape (the next issue of Libram Novus will actually contain an option for using Boon Points for things other than what you earned them for, and even saving them for later).

5) at only 130 pages...Novus feels like a "starter" version (no offense to anyone!) ...any plans to expand it to a super-deluxe version (without it getting unwieldy of course)

No offense taken. Novus is essentially complete. Of course, there are things that could (and may still) be expanded upon, but for all intents and purposes, the core book is the core (though I have also toyed with the idea of releasing alternate versions, such as a version that has no Classes and no levels, or perhaps that uses an alternate version of the magic rules, where you essentially learn each Spell base as a skill, and all spells are basically

I'll think of more as I continue to read..THANKS!

Thanks for the reply!

If I get bored I may try updating the PDF myself with the errata and print it off my wife's color laser printer (assuming she doesn't catch me!).
