NOVUS MINI #3
« on: November 28, 2018, 05:36:22 PM »
This is a random dungeon converted to Novus.  I used only monsters, traps and skill difficulties are based on the Novus Full Rules. It kind of evolved to be a crypt of some sort; and I adjusted the descriptor text to reflect that as I was writing.  I have no time to edit as I write these in between work & family life- so, you'll have to be forgiving.  Over-all it should be an easy encounter to drop in to a short game (maybe an hour or two of playing time?).

As always- any feedback is encouraged!

Hey there.
Ok, this one for me falls a bit flat. It feels random, like why are there kobolds, giant ants, and undead all here? Is it a crypt, because there is just one room that is called burial room, the rest don't completely make sense, why is there a common room in a crypt? What about picking a theme, like undead crypt, and running with that. Maybe make the ants into spiders, more atmospheric, and the kobolds into cultists with a necromancer leader as a boss battle.....
Just random thoughts

It feels random because it was random- LOL.  A random dungeon generated using an online dungeon generator that I just stated for Novus.  I'll re-visit it later tonight and try and fix it up. I guess the straight conversion experiment wasn't such a great idea, though it was pretty fun.  My original idea was that the PCs are tasked with "making safe" the crypt of a local family after it was discovered to be over-run by Monsters.  The Kobolds are mining Essential Salts and have loosed "wandering monsters" to deter any unwanted attention.  But, sometimes, I write too much; so, I removed that in favor of creating an adventure locale you could just drop in to a game.

Revised and expanded.  Thanks for the kick in the butt Dain.  Another hour of work made a big difference in the end product I think.

Now it is pretty cool! I actually really like that you take a crypt, very traditional mini dungeon setting, and run it with insectoids. That is great, something a little fresh. And now the excavation is a great plot hook. Nice.

Like I said - thanks for the kick in the butt!  LOL  One of my goals with the Novus Mini's is to make them a have natural plot hooks that players will want to follow on their own.  I am also trying to stay away from Orcs & Goblins etc.  When I do the full write up of the Insectoids I'll likely add some interesting elements to them - like I did for the Giant Centipede.

I have a few more ideas for Mini's that I want to write - and then I think I'll post a Micro-Setting that you can use as a locale to string them all together.  I'd say a Micro-Setting with 5-6 Novus Mini's would be more than enough to get a new GM, or just a new game, rolling.

I also have a couple of extended adventures on the back burner.  If you have any ideas you should post them so we can build a nice big pool of material.
