Rewording on page 20...
« on: March 05, 2012, 07:38:28 PM »
I am rewording the entire Spells section on page 20 of the PDF. The new wording is as follows:

Spells (p. 57) - Spells are codified methods of manipulating magical energy to produce specific effects. Spells are much like Talents in that they must be learned individually and once acquired, they don't have to be purchased again.

Characters may only know a number of spells equal to the number of ranks they have in Magecraft + 3. Characters may normally ony learn spells from the group known as Universal Spells or from their School of Magic. Characters normally gain access to a School of Magic through one of three TalentsĀ  (Major Adept, Minor Adept, or Extra School of Magic). However, a character may learn spells from other Schools by paying double their normal Non-Adept Cost.

This makes it consistent with later sections that talk about learning spells.

You will have to make it consistent with the Magecraft skill as found on p27, left column:

Learning Spells - A character may learn a maximum
number of spells equal to his 3 + the number of ranks
he has in the basic Magecraft skill.

Your latest definition could make it expensive for non adepts to learn some spells.

Okay, have modified the first post (and the manuscript), so that it is consistent...

Learning Spells ----
1) May only know a number of spells equal to ranks in Magecraft + 3
2) Major Adepts use "Mj" costs for Universal and School* spells
3) Minor Adepts use "Mn" costs Universal and School* spells.
4) Non Adepts use "N" costs for Universal Spells, they have no School, so no School spells.
5) All characters use double "N" costs for spells from Schools that they do not have access to normally.

* == characters gain "access" to one or two Schools based upon having the Major Adept, Minor Adept, and/or Extra School of Magic talent. (Note: I have added back in the bit about Non Adepts learning the "Extra School of Magic" talent to get access to a School, and giving them "N" costs instead of double "N" costs).

I knew that there was a reason for having that bit in there, but I couldn't think of it (brain cramp) when I fixed the wording on that talent a while back, hence the reason why I dropped the bit in the first place... heheh
