I just ordered a physical copy of Novus
« on: August 23, 2012, 03:20:55 PM »
I figured it was time to get myself a physical copy of Novus, since I will be running it in November at GASPCON in Pittsburgh.  http://www.rpgnow.com/product/87903/Novus---Deluxe-Version

But that's different from the one Chronicle city is selling, right?

No, actually it is the same book in both places -- the only difference is the ISBN. Chronicle City is selling the book into distribution so it needed an ISBN, where RPGNow doesn't require one, since it is direct to consumer.

And the ones from Chronicle City are printed at the same printer?

I have no idea which printer Chronicle City uses (RPGNow uses Lightning Source), but I doubt that they are the same printer. The book is the same, only the source is different.

The main difference is that RPGNow doesn't get the book into the rpg distribution chain, where Chronicle City will be doing so...

So the best thing would be to go to my local gaming store and tell him to order Novus from Chronicle City, because thus he knows about the game and maybe buys some more for his store, right? Unfortunately the gaming store here is not exactly friendly and even less helpful, so I doubt it would work.

Here is the blurb for the 1-shot I'll be running at the Con.

RPG - Novus - Midnight Setting: Theros Obsidia (RPG)
By Tim Harper. You and your fellow Legates (evil priests) need to route out and find whoever has been killing off the highest leaders within the Order of Shadow. You can use whatever methods you deem fit to complete the task. One Legate has died every day for the last 3 weeks. To be so assaulted in the heart of Izrador's domain, Theros Obsidia itself, is unheard of! It must be put to an end... or you will be. Novus is a new RPG that was just released this year. I was one of the playtesters for it. The Midnight Setting is a D20 setting, but I have translated it to Novus. : Please go to http://www.firehawkgames.biz/ to give Novus a gander.

Cool, Tim!! It looks neat and extremely interesting..

Raf -- CC has it out to distributors, whether or not retailers will purchase it, I don't know, but it is available to them.

It is a special case with our local gaming store. The owner refused to order a book for me on several occasions, something that just makes no sense, since I would have paid in advance and all. So he has lost a lot of business that way. Interestingly enough he is a huge RM fan though and carried most of the RM FRP line, I bought the main book, GM and Character Law, all three spell laws, C&M and several more there. Maybe I can talk him into carrying Novus if I tell him you designed it?

I got my physical copy in the mail, and that shiny black & gold cover is gorgeous.

Yup, I think it turned out much better in physical form than I thought it would. I think that the glossy of the cover makes it look even better than it does in the PDF.

I would agree.  It is simple, sleek, and sort of elegant.  I was pleasantly surprised, even when I knew what the cover was going to look like from the PDF.

I'll be ordering my copy tonight or tomorow. It'll pretty much be a "blind" purchase, as I know nothing of the game. The incentive to buy lies on the strength of Tim's name. Tim was responsable for all the fun I had with HARP and (even more so) RMX and the top-notch Express Additions. Time I payed back the man for all the gaming fun he sent my way!

Hey, if you are on the main site, look to the menu on the left, and look for Novus TOC (or just use this handy link), and you can actually preview all of the rules online if you want. And I am sure that you will enjoy Novus!
