it has been brought to my attention that the spell, Cause Fear, in the School of Black Magic might be a bit too powerful against PCs.
The spell currently reads --
Cause Fear
Cost: (Mj 4/Mn 5/N 6)
CTN: | 22 | SP Cost: | 3 |
Vs: | Will (TN 16) | Range: | 20' |
Duration: 1 minute |
Description: If the target fails his Save, he will flee from the caster at his best possible speed, for 1 minute. A character who is fleeing cannot and will not make any attacks or do anything else except try to flee. (Base: Telepathy)
Casting Options | CTN | SP |
Increased Duration (to 5 minutes) | +4 | +2 |
Increased Duration (to 10 minutes) | +7 | +3 |
Area Effect (5' radius) | +4 | +2 |
Increased Range (to 50') | +6 | +2 |
The errata would change it to read as follows:
Cause Fear
Cost: (Mj 4/Mn 5/N 6)
CTN: | 23 | SP Cost: | 3 |
Vs: | Will (TN 16) | Range: | 20' |
Duration: 1 minute |
Description: If the target fails his Save, he will be instilled with a great fear of the caster. The effects of this spell will be based upon the Willpower Stat of the target. Targets with a Willpower Stat of 12 or less will flee from the caster in terror for the duration. When fleeing, a character may not make any attacks or do anything else except to attempt to flee. Those who have a Willpower Stat of 13 or greater will be affected by -3 modifier to all actions for the duration of the spell.
The Casting Option, Increased Fear, will cause those with lesser Willpower to faint from the fright that they feel, waking upon the expiration of the spell, while those of greater fortitude will be afflicted with an additional -2 modifier (-5 in total) for the duration. (Base: Telepathy)
Casting Options | CTN | SP |
Increased Fear | +4 | +2 |
Increased Duration (to 5 minutes) | +4 | +2 |
Increased Duration (to 10 minutes) | +7 | +3 |
Area Effect (5' radius) | +4 | +2 |
Increased Range (to 50') | +6 | +2 |
