RE: Natural Magic spell lists...

on page 69, it lists spells for Universal, 3 schools, and 2 classes. It seems the Natural Magic spell list is missing?

Editor's Note: In the Schools of Magic section, we list Natural Magic because the Ranger is a practitioner of Natural Magic, but we do not have a Natural Magic Caster in the book, only Divine/High/ Mysticism (the Cleric, Magician, and Mystic), so we do not include the Spell List for Natural Magic (that will come in the Libram Arcana, along 4 or 5 other Schools of Magic (Black, Natural, Sorcery, Spirit, and Wizardy, and possibly Astrological Magic as well and maybe a Runemage too (I have some ideas for a specific Runecaster TP)).

Suggested formatting change; Combat Moves; I feel like the one row in brackets filled with parameters is hard to read. I would suggest creating a universal table for the top of each move. This would give the lists a uniform feeling. It could also add some whitespace for "eye-breathing" ->

Ok, so I have given it some thought (and started making the big tables as well (those would go at the end of the book, since there would be 3 of them - Melee, Ranges, Unarmed), but these will likely not go in the Bare Bones release (which is what the beta will turn into).

I am putting in the small tables like you suggested, but not exactly as your examples. For instance, I am keeping the parameters in order (from left to right) as I give them in the descriptive overview. I am also only using a 9 pt font for them rather than the 10 pt of the surrounding text. I am also stripping out any thing that is not required (see attached image for examples)

Hopefully, I will not add to the page count (since if it does, then I have to rework ALL of the internal page references) as there was a good deal of white space in the Combat Moves and Combat Styles sections (and if I do not have to add pages, that means I will only have to fix a couple of page references at most (as opposed to most of them).

And 2 more pages of corrections (in the thread of notes... woohoo...)

Still working on finding things needing corrections. I am currently working through the Creatures section (and egads, I have so many little typos in there..... ROFL)

 

So... my new goal is to release it this coming weekend.... if I am done (so keep those comments coming as it is always possible I am still missing things, having been over everything so often...)

In the playtest v24 version, the Burglar has the 'Light Touch' talent which is described... nowhere. I have searched previous versions down to v15 to no avail. The only mention I have found so far is in Novus 1E.

On another forum, another poster has found a LOT of errors in the Bare Bones editions (he has been PMing me them to me). So I have been working through fixing them.

This is why I rely on you guys to see errors where I miss them (cause I have looked at them so long), and it appears you guys aren't always immune to that issue either.. heheh...


Some changes already made include minor typo fixes and clarifications, rewording darkvision to make it clear how far it works inartificial light. and moving Spell Lore back under Magecraft wher eit belongs

We all have this same problem of having read through various versions a lot...

New catches or questions:

• On page 50, spell casting is described as a standard action (which I think is intended) whereas on page 67 under the Quick,Fast and Snap casting paragraph it is described twice as a full action (should be standard I think).
  
• On page 57, I find the description of the Shield Parry move confusing. As it is written now it may imply your shield DT is counted twice: once in your normal DT, once in your AB.
  It says: 'the character may use the Fight Defensively or Full Parry Moves with his Shield. His AB for these Moves is equal to his skill bonus for use Bludgeoning weapons plus the DT Bonus of the Shield itself.'
  Does this mean you have to use your shield to attack too?
  Do you require Shield Bash or Shield Ram to do so? Meaning Bash or Ram are prerequistes?

Actually, looking back at the earlier versions, Full Action is correct. I messed up when reworking the Actions in one of the beta revisions

Notes 4 taken whilst reading Novus 2e rpg (Covers p21-26).

p21 Proficiency Skills - end of first paragraph, I've noticed you've never mentioned whether to round up or down when calculating unlearned Proficiency and Minor Proficiency bonuses. Now from an example on p22, its obviously round down, but it would be useful to have this explicitly stated somewhere.

Have also just noticed that 'Proficiencies and Specialties' description on p18 lists maximum bonus of +5 for Minor and non Proficiencies , but there is no comment on this on p21. I'd sort of assumme that all of the information would be on p21 under 'Skills', rather than under 'Develop Your Character' (where I wouldn't look for it).

p22 Combat Skills - 'There are 6 Combat listed below' should read 'There are 6 Combat Skills listed below'?

p22 Combat Skills - 2nd paragraph. 'specific sSkill' should read 'specific Skill'

p22 Archery - Slings - Sling Staff - Not listed in table on p39

Note: Before correcting, are these really necessary? Have quickly looked through rest of text and only spotted them in this chapter?

p22 Last paragraph of Combat Skills - 'upon the weapon be used. The Weapons table in the Equipment section (p38)' should read 'upon the weapon being used. The Weapons table in the Equipment section (p39)' - Two corrections 'being' and 'p39'.

p22 Divine Magic - 'while Paladins focus on enforcing protecting worshippers.' What does this mean? Who or what are they 'enforcing'?

p22 Natural Magic - Should this be 'Ranger'? I must admit I prefer Natural, but its will take less work to find and replace all magic references to Ranger correctly.

p23 Divider again seems to be placed incorrectly. Should be at end of second column (which would place it at the end of the page)!? Delete?

p23 Looking at Magelore specialties, obviously most of the latter ones require earlier ones. Of interest to me is Herbals. A brief flick through the text indicates that remedies and elixers can be bought, but there are no rules provided for their crafting (time/cost/collecting herbs)? Is this correct? If so I have to say this appears to be an oversight, as I could see this as a valid 'starting character' choice (especially for a cleric and the healing herbal).

p24 Acrobatics - 3rd paragraph. 'Penalties fully apply to this skill'. Does this read better as 'Penalties apply fully to this skill'?

p24 Athletics - Missing comma between swimming and running.

p24 Craft - First sentence - Close bracket at end of sentence.

p24 Craft - First paragraph - 'Each sub- skill will be all' remove space so reads sub-skill

p24 Craft - 'Calligraphy' is the product, should be 'Calligrapher'. Is this distinct enough from the 'Scribe' profession? If you keep Calligrapher, you'll need to change the description ('illuminator of texts'?).

p25 Lore - Second line - 'shouldbe' should be 'should be' (Sorry I couldn't resist)

p25 Perception -third line - 'hiddne' should be 'hidden'

p25 Perform -Last paragraph contains two 'if's that should be 'is'

p25 Divider - Remove depending upon decision made earlier.

p25 Foraging - Contains comment that player may 'purchase Specialties for other region', but does not state a cost. I don't think you can go the minor/full route with this one (as we're already at 2:1 payoff, whereas minor normally at 3:1 ie buying a minor would normally make things worse).

p26 First paragraph - 'This includes showing Intelligence for finding it edible foods', prefer 'This includes using Intelligence for finding it edible foods'

p26 Divider missing before Subterfuge title (if you decide to keep them)

Reworded it to say:

Phobia: GM chooses phobia, -4 to all actions when in the presence of the phobia, and be unable to attack focus of phobia (for example, a phobia of spiders, would mean unable to attack enemies who use spider symbology on their shields or clothing). A successful Will Save allows for attacking at the -4, like all other actions. Every 3 points that the Save succeeds by decreases the penalty by 1 point.

p29 Vampyric Healing - (one to one ratio) ratio of what 1pt healing for 1 litre, 1 pt healing for one body drained?

that was a general "perception" rather than the skill perception - reworded slightly, so it now says "Acute Senses: The character gains a +3 modifier to all perception-related rolls involving a single sense."

p29 Adherence - 'successfull' should be 'successful'

p29 Animal Speech - Should the description contain a reference to the table below? Or better put the table directly below the deccription (ie move Arcanist and Aura Reader to below the table). How reasonable is this in terms of cost? As a player I gain tha animal speech potential, but have to spend CP's to actually learn a language to use this Gift. Wonder if the first (3 CP) language should be free/or at least cost (say) 1 CP (exclude Ancient)?

Animal Speech: You are able to speak to one type of animal for free (excluding Ancient). Each additional language must be learned seperately, and it does not guarantee that the animal will speak with you. Most animals have an intelligence equal to 2-5 year old child.

p30 Destiny Sense - May nedd further refinement of definitions of Destiny and Direction Sense (or maybe I need retraining as a DM)? As a player I'd take Destiny every time, my objective: 'I want to head directly North two paces right now'!

Destiny now takes a Full Action, and Direction is always known.

Destiny Sense is for a specific goal or target (i.e. the bandit's lair or the tomb of azorath, or the magical sword Excalibur), but it does not give distance or tell what obstacles may be in the way...

p30 Dwarfism - Spelling - you can porbably 'Firgure' which word.

p30 Ensorcellment Cure - As it reads, if I was a player and chose 'Ensorcellment Cure' with the 'Lycanthropy' Drawback, as I can immediately cure myself?! Or have I misunderstood?

p30 Favored - Not a fan of this label as you've already used it to describe skills (Favored/Standard). I intially though to relabel it 'Favorite' to minimise editing, but don't know that this really fits the description. Would 'Liked' work?

Rewritten as :

Neutral Odor: The character has a natural ability to neutralize any odor within a 2’ radius if they stay still for a full minute (12 rounds). Any attempts to track any being with this Ability are two Major Complications harder than normal.

p31 Regeneration - 'Hits heals 5 per minute' should read 'Hits heal 5 per minute' (I think)

Have added shield bash as a required for this move and rewritten to read as follows:

That is because you do not round. If you do not have that number of ranks, you do not get a bonus, so  if you have 4 ranks, your bonus is a +0, if you have 5 to 9 ranks, you get a +1, etc. bonus
