As I mention in the Developer's Blog, one dilemma that I am facing is how to best organize/present supplements to folks.

Personally, I prefer the third option, as I can get smaller products out quicker, and there is less overhead required in developing them. And to me, that that just makes more sense. You can purchase the additions you want in PDF format. And if you like them, later on come back and get the compiled print version.

I am wondering cause I could easily put out 2 or 3 smaller supplements in the next week or two, as I am fairly sure how classes are presented (and how spells are built) will not undergo any major changes during the Open Beta.

So, let's get some feedback from you guys!!

Shouldn't we wait till the core rules are playtested for awhile before supplements come out?  If something major changes, you would have to go and fit the supplements as well.

The types of things I am thinking of are things that likely wouldn't change, or at least not much.

For example, doing up and releasing a Shaman class, or a Necromancer class as a stand-alone item. Releasing the Advanced Magic rules, etc..

How about releasing an adventure a month?

How about releasing an adventure a month?

Am working on that as well, but I need maps for that (which I am also working on)...

I'm not sure if it would be a good move to come out with additional classes and stuff so early on. Later on, once the open beta moves closer to its end, I can see this as a good thing.
Adventures would be a great early supplement, giving the people something to playtest the rules on. Perhaps also a number of sample characters?
Maybe having a sample group of one each of all classes for free and more fleshed out characters as a supplement to sell?

Well, there are other factors involved, that I cannot go into, as well.

Most likely, the first supplement that I will put out will be the Advanced Magic rules, which don't really affect the core rules directly, but which are used to build the core rules. Also, I think getting them out as soon as possible would be beneficial in other ways as well...

Will they be sort of an addendum to the open beta?
What I mean is that, if people find stuff to change in the advanced magic rules, they can report and discuss them just like the core rules?

Yes - anything released in PDF format should be considered as flexible enough to be open to corrections and changes up until the time it sees print.

IMHO until the release I think a free profession, monster, etc very week or 2 weeks to keep the product on the free DTRPG front lines would help advertise the product and have the greatest possibility of bringing in new players/GM's.
After that is done then you can look at plans to expand.

Keep people coming back to Novus.  Making changes and posting them is a great way to create a flow of traffic to the website & the online stores that promote the product.  I would add a big "your game for your adventure" splash to the Firehawkgames website to remind/engage people by telling them that they are part of the process and build a bit of ownership in Novus.

Tim, I would think that you should release things that:

A) you feel comfortable releasing

Modified so that Tim is not spelled "Time"  :-[

I am most likely going to go with smaller PDFs, later compiled into larger products, as this kind of allows every release to be treated somewhat as a beta of sorts; allowing for corrections if any are needed.

The first one I am going to do (and I will call the line of smaller PDFs "Libram Novus") will be the Spell Creation rules. They will also allow for such things as unlocking and altering codified spells  at the time of casting (rather than simply using Boon Points as the core rules allow), as well as casting spells on the fly (Improv Casting).

Sounds good so far!

Hopefully Alchemy and Item creation rules are soon on the way, as well as a larger Liber Monstorum.

The Spell Creation rules are written, and the Alchemy/Item creation rules are about 1/3 of the way written (although they are fully planned out).

More monsters will be coming down the pike as time goes on as well.
