Just curious why PC's get to have double their Hit Points to live and NPC's only get to zero.

So in essence, a PC's hit points are double what is written.   Why not just double their hit points and have everyone be dead at zero?  Or, have everyone be able to get to negative hit points?

Not having played in awhile, I can assume this is a way to keep the characters alive longer and be "more heroic" than the normal person....but I'm one of those that likes consistency.

The PC's have Fate Points, etc to make them stand out from the NPC's and adding an "exception" mechanic to the game seems to just confuse things for me.

To keep things simple, actually. Essentially a "mook rule". Non-important characters/monsters die at zero hits.

And characters don't get "double hit points", they basically get Con stat +10 into the negative. (I need to add in that once they hit negatives, they will automatically lose 1 hit per round until death, keep forgetting to do that).

The foes die at zero, isn't really a different rule, but essentially just a short-cut for GMs so that they don't have to continuously track the death throes of foes, or such.

I will change the wording on that as well, so that it makes it the GM's choice to skip the death spiral......

I think you already have the "once they hit negatives" ...

Once a character has a negative hit point value, he is
considered to be dying and will lose 1 additional hit point
each round.

In any case, you're saying the "zero death" is for minor characters.   Major characters like a Dragon or Demon Lord or whatever will follow the same rules as PC's.

Zero for major characters means "you're going to die soon, you or your friends had better do something smart soon."

zero for major characters is when those emergency teleport/healing/"get me the hell out of here" spells/items would go off....
