Back in 1986, while I was in the Army, in AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at Fort Gordon, Georgia, to be exact, I played AD&D with a group of fellow soldiers. Our GM at the time had this list of
Standard Equipment that he gave out to ALL characters. I later incorporated this (or a form of this) into many of my games.
A question in another thread reminded me of this list, and so I thought that I would share it here with folks.
Standard Equipment- Standard Pack (see below)
- 1 Mount: Light Warhorse, Ponies, Riding Dogs, etc... per type of character
- 2 Weeks of Rations
- 4 Days of Extra Water
- 1 Extra Missile Weapon: of the type that the character uses.
- 12 Silvered Missiles for the type of missile weapon that the character uses.
- 1 Bedroll: contains blanket and a complete change of clothing
- 4 days of rations for the mount: includes 2 feedbags or bowls depending upon type of mount
- 1 set of saddlebags for the mount
- 1 complete change of clothing (in addition to what is in bedroll)
- 1 tan cape and 1 pair soft boots
- 1 complete set of mapping tools
- A single 2 lb block of salt: for both mount and rider
- Tools of the Trade: This is basic weapons, Holy Symbols, Thieves' Tools, etc... as per the type of character
Standard Pack[/list]
- 30' Spider silk Rope: Iron clip ends, 2,000 lb test
- 3 poles: Each is 2' long, iron tipped with a 1 inch diameter screw configuration (one end male, the other female)
- 1 hatchet Head: connects to the poles
- 1 wide blade dagger: connects to the poles to form spear
- 3 torch heads: connects to poles
- 1 flask fine oil glass container padded with cotton rags
- 1 Hooded Lantern: filled and padded with cotton rags
- 3 weeks worth of iron rations
- 1 tallow candle: soft tallow wax, useful against sound attacks
- 1 small steel mirror
- 1 small cotton sack
- 1 large canvas or leather sack
At Belt Items[/list]
- Wide leather belt with 1 inch diameter rings spaced every 4 inches
- 1 set of cleats: 1 & 1/2 inches tall (useful on ice, "marbles", etc...)
- 2 Hard Leather Pouches: 3" x 5" x 9", attached to belt rings
- 1 dagger: in sheath attached to belt rings
- 1 tinderbox: Contains flint, steel, wood shavings, etc...
Thieves' Tools[/list]
- 1 small leather case containing an assortment of many lock picks of various sizes and shapes
- 1 padded grapnel: folding umbrella type
- 1 small periscope: for peering around obstacles
- 1 small brace and several bits of varying sizes in a small leather case
- 60' of black thread on a spool
- 1 fishhook sized grapnel (for use with the thread)
- 1 pair soft leather gloves
- 1 small iron prybar
