Just to be sure... aren't initiative rolls non-implosive/non-explosive?  I seem to recall that... but I could be wrong.

IIRC, we had it that way at one time, but then changed it to allow for explosive/implosive results (which allows for extremely lucky characters to overcome the -20 that is given by surprise). Surprise is the only instance where the rules say that a negative IP means you cannot act this round (and IIRC, it says that if surprise makes you go below zero, you lose actions for the initial round), otherwise, I would say that a person with a naturally occurring negative IP simply goes in order like anybody else..

What I can do, however, is "Reroll Initiative" (spend 4 AP preparing, no more than half my AB used to Fight Defensively, and reroll initiative for next round, and then keeping that initiative for the remainder of the combat). And I think it might be a good idea if I do this...

And to be clear about Ewyn's actions....

He has his Baton out, and he is using half of his AB in Fighting Defensively (20 DEF + 4 Fighting Defensively == 24 DEF total), and is spending his AP on Rerolling Initiative (4 AP, with 1 AP spent slowly moving back towards where we entered, and away from the smoke coming up out of the floor).

Is that okay? Or do I need to wait until next round to do this?

Fidoric is first, then the smoky tendrils, and then FHG_Tim goes last.

Okay, so we need to announce what we are doing.

Tim has announced this already.

The tendrils are going to attempt to attack both of your legs.

Fidoric what do you want to do, and remember you get to go first.

First, having no clue about the tendrils nature, Ceillen use 1 AP to go away in the same direction as Ewyn and 4 APs to fire an astral bolt at it (the creature of course).

If the astral bolt seems harmless to the tendrils, Ceillen will retreat while using his staff defensively.
Current Ceillen DEF is 17, fighting defensively will make it 19.

Why does it have to implode every other roll... :'(

Basic CTN is 18, so this roll 'earns' me a snag point... Spell seems to be cast normally but has no effect...

If Ceillen is aware of his fumble, he will try another bolt next round. If he is not, he will consider the creature to be impervious to his attack and will switch to defensive fighting.

BTW, if one astral bolt strikes ever hits a target, it causes 4+wisdom=6 base damage and double (total) damage to any creature or being that is not from the Mortal Planes; including Celestial, Infernal, and Spirit entities. It does no damage to constructs, undead, or other non-living objects or things.

Maybe we should do a "Practice" roll before making each "real roll", like so:

Practice Roll

Real Roll

Two attacks on you guys.  The first one is towards Ewyn and the second is towards Ceillen.

Huh, I can't seen to get the dice roller to work.

I'm just going to do this old school (with real dice).

9 & 3 +5 = 17

8 & 3 +5 = 16

New bolt for Ceillen.4 APs for the bolt, 1 to back away. For the dice roller you have to put a comma between the number of rolls and the adjustment like this :ovus 2,+5:

New astral bolt:

Oops! I guess I have botched my edit attempt.
I forgot to put the + before the adjustment and it wasn't taken into account. Anyway, this makes it 2+2+7=11. That's a new failure.
I will try this again next round...
