Novus Character Creation

When I figure everything out, I will put character creation guidelines here.

Start at 1st level.

Use the Stat Array Method for generating Stats, but do not adjust them.  Leave them as they are and arrange them to suit your character concept.    17, 16, 15, 14, 14, 12, 11, & 10

In addition to the standard equipment you will be getting a mount.  This game will have lots of travel and exploration, so a mount is a good idea.  The mounts you will have will be strange four-legged birds that can't fly (picture a four-legged Ostrich).  They are roughly the same as a Medium Horse in the rules.

Everyone starts out with the standard free equipment in the rules, plus 20 Silver Pieces.  It would be a good idea to spend ALL of your starting money, since there won't be a nearby store to purchase things at the start of the campaign.  SPEND IT ALL I SAY!  Other items: Caltrops (5), Coat, Multi-tool, Oil Flask x2, Pants x2, Pitons/stakes (20), Additional Quiver & 20 arrows, Additional 50' superior rope, 2 Sacks (50 lbs), Shirt x2, 20 torches

Any limitations on the Races/classes available? Core rules only? Are the Classes from Libram Novus #4 allowed?

Classes from Libram Novus 4 are okay.  Any Novus Races are fine as well.

And the retainers are human, even if the pc is of any other race?

To make it simple, yes.  Let's make all of the retainers Human even if your character is a different race.

One more question:
I'd like to play a priest of some sort and from the opening lines of the IC thread I gather that the characters will wake up with no recollections of anything. So how shall I handle the religion of my priest?

Well since it is part of your skills & abilities, let us say that he does remember his religion and god(s).  Feel free to make up any god & religion you want to.  If you need help with that just ask.

I am going to add 10 Silver to the retainers so they can buy some gear too.  I will edit the above post.

If my son gives me some free time, I'll try to crank out a statted up Generic Retainer.

I added the Generic Retainer stats to the first post, and also to the character sheets thread.

I can't make up my mind between a elf shaman and and elf warrior-mage. The former brings some versatility (healing, intel...) and the latter more firepower (or lightning power...).
What do you think could be more useful to the group as it is ?

Well, both could be very useful.  Is the Shaman from one of the Libram Novus PDFs?  As a GM I tend to see what kind of PCs the players make and run the game accordingly.  That being said, I do enjoy watching players come up with interesting alternative choices and solutions when certain roles are missing in a group.

If I had to choose though, I would say a Shaman sounds like it would fit better, or be more helpful since the group will be on their own for much of the time.  Well alone till they bump into other... things.

Is anyone else working on their characters?  It's been a bit quiet around these parts...

I am thinking of a Halfling Monk -- however, what with signing the papers on the house last Friday, I have been very busy and likely will be for the next 2 weeks (i.e. we have until the end of the month to move into the new house). That is, unless I want my wife to kill me... hehehe

I was away, visiting my mother and grandmother (always a good idea, since there's a lot of great food to be had) and thus couldn't finish my character. I want to play a Dwarven Cleric though.

Elf Shaman, a Halfling Monk, and a Dwarven Cleric.  Interesting mix so far.

Good luck with the house Tim.
